The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven Emirates, the most prominent among them being Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Although Abu Dhabi is the capital city, Dubai remains the more populous and popular destination. One of the most visited cities in the world, Dubai is both a regional business hub and shopping capital. The cosmopolitan city is home to an expatriate majority, and visitors from all across the world are dazzled by the city’s gorgeous beaches, sleek and modern architecture, world-class shopping & dining, and vibrant nightlife.

Climate

The UAE is made up mainly of dry desert, and visitors often seek the thrill of the many daring Arabian Desert adventures. Given the hot summers and relatively warm winters, the optimum time to visit is between November and March.

Language

The national language of the UAE is Arabic, however English is widely spoken.

Currency

The official currency of the UAE is the Dirham. One Dollar is equivalent to 3.67 Dhs and one Euro is equivalent to 3.94 Dhs. Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are easily found.

Local time

The time zone in the UAE is GST (GMT+4). Daylight saving time is not observed.

Clothing

Travellers should wear light clothing all year round. A light jacket or sweater is needed in winter, especially in the evenings. Clothing should moreover be modest, in keeping with the local culture.

Food

The traditional food of the Emirates is rice, fish and meat. Typical meals are stew-like dishes and grilled meats infused with saffron, cardamom, turmeric, and thyme. However, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are home to some of the finest restaurants and cafes, serving a wide range of international cuisines.

Documentation

An entry visa to the UAE can be arranged for European passport holders at the airport. Other passport holders must apply and fill out a “Visa Application Form” and send this form along with a scanned passport and a personal photograph (no larger than 40kb) to our Dubai Office (booking@galaxiadubai.com) in order to process it and receive an acceptance prior to the customer’s departure.

The visa procedure usually takes 3 to 5 business days (taking into account a Friday/Saturday weekend). Upon arrival to the UAE, travellers must submit a hard copy of the form along with their passport at passport control. Airport authorities will request “eye-prints” from travellers.

The total price of the visa is 105 dollars.

Important Information:

It is recommended for travellers to avoid drinking liquids that aren’t bottled, as well as unpeeled fruit, raw vegetables and cold beverages, except in restaurants and hotels.

We moreover recommend that travellers bring their own medicines against intestinal infections, fever, colds, and are equipped with high SPF sun protection.

If you are visiting the UAE during Ramadan, it is important to take into account changes to trading hours, transport and life in general, and anticipate frequent delays and irregularities. During the day, only one restaurant will be open in each hotel, and visitors should avoid eating in public until after sunset. Access to alcohol may also be restricted during the day but will be allowed after sunset.
