SIWA

Set deep in the Western Desert of Egypt, Siwa is the Ancient Oasis of Amun Ra.

In a deep desert depression, just 50km short of the Libyan border lies Siwa, one of Egypt’s most remote desert settlements. Siwa once belonged to Ancient Libya and given its distance from Cairo as well as its predominantly Berber population, its no wonder that Siwi culture is so unique. Siwi crafts, some of which include pottery, silverwork, basketry, and embroidery, are distinct to those of other Egyptian cities, as is Siwi language, clothing and many of their customs and traditions.

Travelers have long been drawn to Siwa for its picturesque mud-brick houses, rippled dunes, and desert sunsets. But this urban oasis is also home to a host of historical monuments and natural, including the ancient Temple of the Oracle and Cleopatra’s Bath, one of the town’s many ancient natural springs.
